The Dream It Do It program is a student video contest titled, “What’s so Cool About 
Manufacturing”. The program is dedicated to changing perceptions and attitudes about advanced manufacturing careers in the Keystone State. Dream It Do It PA started in the Lehigh Valley in 2013 and each year we are seeing more counties in the state embrace the program. This year’s contest will include 130 middle school teams, in 16 different counties, who will be matched up with 130 manufacturers across the commonwealth.
In this year’s (2016) footprint, there are ten (10) middle schools throughout Bucks and Montgomery Counties that will compete in the state-wide contest. Each school has been matched up with a local manufacturing company to create a compelling video that generates excitement about manufacturing as a career path. Companies are giving students direct access to their facilities in November to find out 1) what they manufacture, 2) discover some of the tasks they do each day, and 3) why their employees love their jobs. From this footage, the students will produce a 2 ½ minute video.
These videos are then uploaded to the Dream It Do It website for the general public to view. For three days’ the general public will vote for their favorite video. This contest is promoted throughout the region by PBS and on billboards. The project culminates with an award show where students, family members, teachers, and manufacturers are in attendance. By improving the image of manufacturing jobs in Pennsylvania and creating awareness of various positions, the contest not only creates excitement for the participants but also introduces parents and students to the opportunities available in a manufacturing career.
